Scouting Skills Go Beyond the Troop Meeting

This year, the Garden State Council held 2 National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) Courses. Like Wood Badge training for adults, NYLT teaches youth leadership skills to help them lead the Scouts in their units. The results are stronger units with growing programs that fulfill the mission & vision of the Boy Scouts of America.

The skills presented in these courses go far beyond the Pack, Troop, & Crew meetings. Recently, NYLT staff alumni Pete posted a photo online of his whiteboard, showing references of the stages of team development and EDGE.

Fall Recruitment Is Almost Here!

With back-to-school fast approaching, so too is the fall recruitment season for Garden State Council.  If you have not already, you will soon be hearing from your District Executive looking for the date, time, and location of your unit’s fall recruitment night.  As in year’s past, the council will be providing fliers, posters, yard signs, and other recruiting materials to your unit to help get the word out about your recruitment night.  We need to hear from you though so we know what materials you need and how many and when.

Duty to God: new BSA leadership position

Are you interested in helping Scouts not only say, but live the words: "duty to God?"
To help achieve this goal, the BSA has recently established new adult leadership positions called Religious Emblem Coordinators (RECs), which are at the council, district, and unit level. The positions not only help Scouts earn the religious award of the Scouts' faith, but also promote duty to God activities at the council, district and unit level, such as the Ten Commandments Hike.

Adults Like Having Fun Too!

The Wood Badge Staff just completed their last weekend prep session and are anxiously waiting for the official start of course N5-690-13!
If you’ve been thinking about registering for this year’s program, I invite you to take the next step.  Registration is as easy as a few clicks and starts with this one: dk.gardenstatescouting.org/WoodBadge
