Camp Cards

2020 Camp Card Program

SALE DATES: March 1 – June 30, 2020

Looking for an easy way to raise money for your unit or for your Scouts to earn money to pay for summer camp?

Give Camp Cards a try!

The Camp Card sale is open to all Scouting units (Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing Crews, Exploring Posts, STEM Scouts) in the Garden State Council.

Camp Cards cost only $5 and your unit gets to keep $2.50 from every card sold! The card features two "snap-off" single use coupons from Shop Rite and the Philly Pretzel Factory!  In addition, there is a special access code on the back of each card that allows the user to access up to 10 coupons from an entertainment digital savings site with thousands of local offers. The card offers an estimated savings value of $100.

Units: To obtain Camp Cards, please contact your District Executive.

The sale runs from March 1st to June 30th. There is no upfront cost for the cards, units only pay for what they sell. Since we have a limited supply of Camp Cards available, we need to impose a penalty for returning unsold cards.  UPDATE: Any restocking penalty is waived for the 2020 sale! Continue to sell your camp cards all the way through June!

Important revised dates and deadlines (If you have printed the Unit Guide Book, please update the dates according to the revised dates below):

Here is a list of local merchants as a Word document so you can edit it for your neighborhood.  (This was a helpful tip from one of the Council's top Camp Card sellers.  It shows your customers how the card will benefit them.)

Each month there will be a drawing for a $100 Visa Gift Card! (UPDATE: The drawings will all happen on the 1st Friday in the month the Council re-opens!)

For each month of the Camp Card Sale, a scout will get their name entered into the drawing for each 25 Camp Cards they sell (sell 25 cards get one entry, sell 50 get two entries, etc…). The drawing will take place the first Friday after the month ends (see the UPDATE above). A drawing will be held for the months of March, April, and May. To be eligible for each month’s drawings, the money and totals for each Scout must be made to the Scout Office before the end of each month. All entries will be saved for the Grand Prize Drawing on July 10th.

Are your Scouts looking forward to their summer camp adventure this summer? Are they also having a hard time selling Camp Cards during the current “stay at home” mandate? Here are some great tips on how your Scouts can still sell Camp Cards and “earn their way to camp”! (This is also available as a PDF in the files below.)

Tip #1: Set a Goal and Craft a Message

Scouts should set a goal and create a message that explains their goal to their customers. This could be a poster, a video… get creative! Potential customers want to support kids who are working toward an exciting experience. Explain that the Camp Card will benefit the customer because of the discounts -- families are still grocery shopping, so now is the perfect time to use the Shop Rite $5.00 off one-time-use break-off coupon on the Camp Card -- but will also benefit the Scout because of the experiences!

Tip #2: Define the Market

Scouts can define their market. They can work with their parent/guardian to develop a list of every family member, neighbor, co-worker, and other contacts they have, and make a plan for the best ways to contact them. Who can you reach through email? Who can you reach through social media? Who is best reached with a phone call? Units can also support the Scouts by promoting the sale on their websites and social media channels.

Tip #3: Customer Convenience

Make transactions easy with contactless delivery and even digital payments. With proper safety measures in place, you can make pickup/delivery arrangements with your local customers. Digital payment tools like PayPal, Venmo, and the Cash App carry no fees with person-to-person transactions; and these digital tools can help parents keep track of a Scout’s sales.

Share Your Success

If your Scout or Unit has an innovative and effective way to sell Camp Cards while “staying at home,” please let us know so we can share it with all of our Units that are selling Camp Cards!  Let’s help our Scouts “earn their way to camp”!
