Addendum
Now that the National Jamboree is over, attention turns to next summer’s World Jamboree. While I was at the National Jamboree, I spoke with several Scout leaders who had high praise for the event.
When I had to set the US contingent size last November, I obviously wanted to estimate a little lower so as not to pay for spots we didn’t need. I went with 14 units (36 Scouts and 4 adults). That filled up by early June and we started a waitlist. That list grew so quickly by the middle of July that we had enough for two more units which I asked for and was approved for. I also told the Poland organizing committee about our National Scout Jamboree and that that would also generate a lot of interest for three reasons:
- Scouts would be having so much fun at the National Jamboree that they would be asking “What’s next?” “Wait, there’s a World Jamboree?”
- Scouts and parents knew about the World Jamboree but wanted to see how they did at the National Jamboree before committing.
- Many National Jamboree leaders will also be leaders for the World Jamboree and now that the Scouts and families know one or more of the leaders, they will feel more comfortable.
With that, the Poland organizing committee has given us until the end of August to add to our contingent. We still have to have participants and IST start off by registering on the waitlist and then we will move them over to active as we get the approvals from Poland with the goal of letting everyone either moved or know where they stand on the waitlist by mid September. We will still have a waitlist of the last people to sign up as we know there will be drops from time to time. For more information visit– https://wsj2027.us
