Scholarships

Deadline: January 16, 2026

Each year, the Eagle Alumni Committee of the Garden State Council awards a $1,000 scholarship to an Eagle Scout entering college or a post-high school technical program. To be eligible, candidates must have completed all Eagle Scout requirements, received Board of

Review approval within the Garden State Council, and must be graduating high school in the same year as the scholarship award.

Applicants must submit the scholarship application along with a 1,000-word essay responding to the prompt: "What does being an Eagle Scout mean to me?" See the application for full submission instructions.

Application Window: December 1 – January 31

The National Eagle Scout Association offers scholarships to Eagle Scout members who are high school seniors or older, open to applicants nationwide. Visit the NESA website for full eligibility requirements and to apply.

Deadline: April 30

Each year, the APO Eagle Alumni Association recognizes Eagle Scouts who have distinguished themselves through exceptional service and leadership. Scouts may begin applying in their senior year of high school.

Key dates:

• Eagle Board of Review must be completed on or before January 30
• Applications open January 1
• Applications must be submitted by April 30
• Scholarship awards announced June 10

In 1998, Jirair S. Hovnanian established the Hovnanian Scholarship Fund to honor the 50th anniversary of his family's arrival in the United States. Having built a life rooted in hard work, ethics, and dedication as the founder of J.S. Hovnanian & Sons, he created this fund to help young people pursue their own American Dream.

Applicants must be graduating high school seniors and registered members of the Scouting America Garden State Council. The completed application and essay are due February 1, with winners receiving checks at the annual Council Volunteer Recognition Dinner.
