James E. West Fellowship

James E. West became Chief Scout Executive in 1910 by the founding leadership of Scouting in America. Collaborating with Sir Robert Baden-Powell, Daniel Carter Beard, Ernest T. Seton, and community leaders across the country, West helped shape the foundational direction of the Boy Scouts of America. On January 2, 1911, he and others formed the National Council, BSA, establishing the Scout Oath, Scout Law, badges, and the core policies that define Scouting to this day. Over the next 33 years under his leadership, Scouting grew into the program we know and cherish today.

The James E. West Fellowship Award is a national recognition authorized by the National Council, BSA and presented by the Garden State Council. It honors individuals and chartered units who contribute $1,000 or more in cash or securities to the Garden State Council's James E. West Fellowship fund.

Ideally, this contribution is in addition to—and should not replace—the donor's annual gift to the Friends of Scouting Campaign.

West Fellow, recognizing their spirit and dedication to Scouting's enduring mission. Each Fellow helps ensure the financial stability that will carry Scouting forward for generations to come.
