Trail to First Class and Beyond

The Scouts BSA advancement journey is built around seven ranks, each one building on the last: Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle.

The Trail to First Class program gives new Scouts a clear, achievable goal for their first year—earning the ranks of Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class. It's a proven path. Scouts who reach First Class in their first year are significantly more likely to stay in Scouting, stay engaged, and continue growing as leaders.

From there, the journey continues. First Class Scouts go on to earn Star and Life before reaching the pinnacle of Scouting achievement—the Eagle Scout rank.
