Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS)

What is IOLS?

IOLS is the required outdoor training course for Scouts BSA leaders. Designed for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters, the course teaches the practical outdoor skills needed to confidently lead troop activities and campouts.

Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters must complete IOLS to be considered fully trained.

Training Topics Include:

Outdoor cooking
Knots and lashings
Fire building
First aid

Map and compass skills
Camping essentials
Outdoor ethics
